social and climate justice
Resources and involvment
There are multiple reasons for which getting actively involved for better social and clmate justice makes sense. While individual acts alone can hardly shift the needle, they can pave the way to larger institutional change, by affecting the balance of power between individuals and institutions.
My general philosophy for both climate and social matters follows the reduce, replace, replan razor : I try to avoid actions that are contrary to my beliefs, though in the cases when I cannot, I try to mitigate their impact (for example, if I have to eat meat, I will go for chicken rather than beef). An informal version of this statement is that it is better to have many people being vegetarian only at lunchtime than few people being vegetarian evry waking hour.
In that spirit, this page advertises some of the commitments I individually take towards a more sustainable society.
I am mostly (ovo,lacto) vegetarian (since 2016)
Becoming vegetarian is one of the most powerful individual actions one can make (source). As such, I do not eat meat or fish as a general rule, though I make exceptions (less than 5% of meals), typically to accomodate elderly family members, or when I am somewhere where finding a vegetarian option is complicated, e.g. in a place I do not speak the language of.
Halting plane travel (in progress, 2019)
Halting plane travel is another impacting action. However, I made some exceptions to this rule :
- In november 2022, I had to travel from Paris to Palermo for a conference
