Learning outcome

By the follow-up of this module, the student:

• is made sensitive in the role and in the importance of the analogical-digital electronic acquisition interfaces for the applications in instrumentation or in communications;
• must be capable of identifying the essential electronic components of a signal acquisition system and understands the function;
• has to know the main criteria of performances of these components and their impact on the global characteristics of the system;
• must know how to use the tools of signal theory (Laplace and Z transforms) for the signals conveyed by an acquisition system;
• is made sensitive in the microelectronics realisation of such systems and in particular by exploiting the analogical signal processing at discrete time thanks to the switched capacitors technique.

Outline syllabus

This course offers a first approach of the electronics of the acqisition systems by following a method of analysis - by the system towards the component - and proposes more particularly the study of the functions of analog signal processing and the conversion in a digital signal. The functions of amplification, filtering and analog-to-digital conversion are presented, their main characteristics are described, components realising them are modelled. The technique of switched capacitors, widely used for the discrete time analogical signal processing, is systematically presented and used for the implementation of the functions notably during practical works using reconfigurables components.

Written examination and knowledge assessment

Each of the 4 sessions of practical works gives place to a note. The average of the notes of practical works counts for 20 % of the final note. < Br > A written examination with documents authorised of duration 1:30 counts for 80 % of the final note.

• Knowledge of components (voltage and current sources, resistor, capacitor, inductor) and general rules of electricity.
• Knowledge of signal processing tools: Laplace transform and Z transform.
