CHI'22 Workshop paper: Exploring Memory Manipulation in Extended Reality Using Scenario Construction

May, 2022

I started my PhD by working on a short paper for the workshop SSPXR (Novel Challenges of Safety, Security and Privacy in Extended Reality) at CHI'22.

In this short paper we start a discussion around potential memory manipulations in Extended Reality. We present a speculative scenario where users' memory would be manipulated through VR for advertising purposes. You can find the paper here.

Working on a workshop paper as a first PhD project was helpful on many aspects:

  • It allowed me to have a first experience of writing a research paper without the pressure of writing a full paper (learning the structure and the process)
  • It helped me to define and motivate my PhD topic, with something concrete (not just thinking about it, but actually formulating)
  • It gave me the possibility to get early feedback during the workshop
  • And it gave me a good reason to attend the conference!
