VP - Institute for Sustainable Mobility, Corporate Social Responsibility - RSE . Title: "Road Safety, an investment for the future”. Location: Amphi Fournel, Arts et Metiers ParisTech, Boulevard de l'Hopital, 75013 Paris .
Abstract: Nearly 1.3 million people are killed on the world's roads each year.Up to 50 million people are injured, and many remain disabled for life. 90% of casualties from road deaths occur in developing countries. Annual road traffic deaths are forecast to rise to 1.9 million people by 2020. Road traffic injuries are the number one cause of death for young people worldwide. By 2015 road traffic injuries will be the leading health burden for children over the age of five years in developing countries. The economic cost to developing countries is at least $100 billion a year. Road traffic injuries place an immense burden on hospitals and health systems generally. Road crashes are preventable.A global Action Plan includes practical measures which, if implemented, could save millions of lives.

Wednesday 21th September - 14h00: Balázs Gulyás - Member of the Academia Europaea,Psychiatry Section, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, . Title: "Translational molecular neuroimaging”. Location: Room R229 (2nd floor), University Paris Descartes, rue de Saint Pères, 75005 Paris.
Abstract: The human genome contains over 22.000 genes determining structural and/or functional proteins. According to recent estimates, ~4.000 of them can be targeted at ~12.000 various target sites. Using advanced molecular imaging techniques, with positron emission tomography (PET) in the first place, and molecular imaging biomarkers, these various molecular targets in the body, including disease biomarkers and/or disease modifiers, can be visualized in vivo.
Complemented with animal disease models, with special regard to transgenic models, the molecular imaging approach has significant benefits in the field of the development of both diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic drugs for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Whereas in the past two decades the role of PET imaging has steadily increased as an indispensible tool to explore the human brain’s neuroreceptor fingerprint as well as to accelerate CNS drug development for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, in recent years the development of novel diagnostic imaging biomarkers for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration has been in the forefront of PET radioligand research and development for CNS studies.
The lecture will give an outline of the recent status of translational neuroimaging from transgenic small animal disease models through non-human primate investigations to human volunteer and patient studies in the field of normal brain functions as well as various neurological and psychiatric disorders.
