Medical Image Analysis - level 1

Outline: This course offers an introduction to image processing tools used to perform basic medical image analysis such as segmentation, registration and denoising.  The goal of this course is to provide the students with the fundamental knowledge and trainging required to use and understand common  medical image processing software tools and their functionalities.

Course Schedule:
Lecture 1: Image structures, format and visualization in 2D and 3D. Temporal dimension.
Scalar, vectorial and tensor image data. Interpretation of gray and color values ; bried overview of the human visual syste. ( Florence Cloppet).
Lecture 2: Fourier analysis and image processing (Florence Cloppet).
Lecture 3: Mathematical morphology: dilatation, erosion, opening, closing (Etienne Decenciere)
Lecture 4: Mathematical Morphology: geodecic, reconstruction (Etienne Decenciere)
Lecture 5: Introduction to the segmentation and watershed (Etienne Decenciere)
Lecture 6: Segmentation methods with statistical approaches and shape models (Elsa Angelini)
Lecture 7: Shape and texture quantification, caracterization et recognition. (Florence Cloppet)
Lecture 8: Beyound 2D: 3D image processing, motion analysis, registration (Etienne Decenciere)

Evaluation: written exams (40%), practical computer labs (30%) and projects (30%).

n the basic sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry) and applied mathematics (signal-processing, numerical analysis).
