Research interests

 

Machine learning for temporal data analysis, especially:

  • multiview learning methods;
  • discriminative learning methods;
  • latent variable analysis and data decomposition methods;

with applications to:

  • machine listening and music content analysis;
  • multimodal perception: human activity, behaviour and emotion analysis, EEG and physiological signal analysis;
  • multimedia content analysis, especially joint audiovisual data analysis.

Short bio

 

Slim Essid is a Full Professor at the Department of Image and Signal Processing-TSI of TELECOM ParisTech and the coordinator of the Audio Data Analysis and Signal Processing team (ADASP, formerly known as the AAO group). He received the state engineering degree from the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis in 2001; the M.Sc. (D.E.A.) degree in digital communication systems from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris, France, in 2002; the Ph.D. degree from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC), in 2005; and the habilitation (HDR) degree from UPMC in 2015.
He has been involved in various French and European research projects among which are Quaero, Networks of Excellence Kspace and 3DLife, and collaborative projects REVERIE and LASIE. Over the past 10 years, he has collaborated with 12 post-docs and has graduated 6 PhD students; he is currently supervising 8 others.
He has published over 80 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers with more than 50 distinct co-authors.
On a regular basis he serves as a reviewer for various signal processing, audio and multimedia conferences and journals, for instance various IEEE transactions, and as an expert for research funding agencies.
