From this page, you can download the P2PGauge software and manual, an explanatory poster as well as a few example traces to start playing with it. Briefly, the software passively listen to the traffic generated by a P2P application running on a probe host, and analyzes it in real time. More precisely, it performs database lookup of the IP addresses of the peers contacted to geolocalize them, and uses standard tools such as traceroute and CapProbe to infer properties of the end-2-end path between peers (such as RTT, bottleneck capacity and IP hop distance). Data is then visually presented in several outputs formats (empirical PDFs, geographical maps, Kiviat charts, etc.) exploiting different analysis techniques.
