Display gamma estimation applet

The light output of a cathode ray tube (CRT) display is generally related to video signal amplitude by a nonlinear function. If the "brightness" control of the display monitor is set correctly, this nonlinear relationship can be approximated by a power function of the form

luminance = voltage gamma

This applet allows to estimate the exponent "gamma" of the power function.

Please make sure that the "brighness" control of your monitor is set correctly before using this applet. An unusual high "gamma" would indicate that the "brightness" setting is too "dark" (negative offset of black level).
