Research interests

 

Machine learning for multimodal data analysis, especially:

  • temporally structured multimodal data analysis;
  • discriminative learning methods;
  • latent variable analysis and data decomposition methods;

with applications to:

  • multimodal perception: human activity, behaviour and emotion analysis, EEG and physiological signal analysis;
  • multimedia content analysis: joint audiovisual processing, music content analysis.

Short bio

 

Slim Essid is an Associate Professor at the Department of Image and Signal Processing-TSI of TELECOM ParisTech and the head of the AAO group. He received the state engineering degree from the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis in 2001; the M.Sc. (D.E.A.) degree in digital communication systems from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, Paris, France, in 2002; the Ph.D. degree from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC), in 2005; and the habilitation (HDR) degree from UPMC in 2015.
He has been involved in various French and European research projects among which are Quaero, Networks of Excellence Kspace and 3DLife, and collaborative projects REVERIE and LASIE. Over the past 3 years, he has collaborated with 4 post-docs and has graduated 4 PhD students; he is currently supervising 4 others.
He has published over 70 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers with more than 50 distinct co-authors.
On a regular basis he serves as a reviewer for various signal processing, audio and multimedia conferences and journals, for instance various IEEE transactions, and as an expert for research funding agencies.
